How are health and happiness related?

Health and Happiness are strangely but strongly connected to each other. Happiness is all about the moment & bond that people share with their loved ones, however, it also has a huge impact on our health. What is Happiness? It’s a broad concept that represents the emotion of pleasant feelings, such as pleasure, happiness, and satisfaction which are directly associated with our health.

Few moments of laughter & joy can prove to be a distraction for someone’s physical or mental pain. Being happy is a state of mind and when the mind is at peace & happy, every organ of the body gets the same message.

Let’s just explore how happiness can make us healthier:

  • Encourages a Healthy & balanced lifestyle: Being happy encourages a variety of lifestyle activities that are essential for good health. Happy people tend to eat healthy food, with higher consumption of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Adults with positive well-being tend to consume fresh fruits & vegetables, which also positively boosts the immune system.
  • Helps in managing stress: Happiness & Positivity can also help in minimizing the stress levels. Normally, excess stress triggers a rise in cortisol levels, a hormone that leads to all of the adverse consequences of stress, including sleep disruption, weight gain, type 2 diabetes and elevated blood pressure; however, cortisol levels tend to be lower when people are happy.
  • Makes Heart Healthier: Happiness reduces blood pressure (one of the key risk factors of heart diseases), which ultimately makes your heart a happy heart. Being happy is not the only solution to heart problems, it is one of the solutions.
  • A key to survival: Emotions are an important part of life. Positivity & Optimism are the emotions which are key for anyone’s survival & these emotions are connected with happiness.

These are some of the ways to be Happy:

  • Stay active: Aerobic exercise is the most successful form of exercise to improve pleasure & increase happiness. Running or playing tennis isn't just going to be good for physical fitness, but also boosts your mood too.
  • Be thankful: Focus on your things that you're grateful for. One way to practice this kind of gratitude is to write down three things for which you are thankful at the end of each day.
  • Get good & sound sleep: Poor sleep always has a negative impact on happiness as well as on anyone’s well-being, which also causes insomnia. Therefore, if there is difficulty in sleeping then try to figure out the tricks to get a decent night's sleep.
  • Therapy & Meditation: Daily meditation increases happiness & relaxation in the mind. This also includes reducing stress and improves sleep patterns.

However, one of the major factors for being happy is having positivity in mind & an overall positive environment. Never leave your mind with a negative question mark rather answer it with a positive full stop. We often confuse happiness with laughter, always remember “you laugh when your moment is funny & you smile when your moment is happy.” So, be happy & keep everyone around you happy.
